Delivery And Technical Excellence

As a greenfield industrial facility incorporating innovative mineral carbonation technology, the MCi project required flexibility, technical depth and precise coordination across disciplines.

AVE’s multi-skilled team collaborated directly with MCi’s in-house engineers and contractors to ensure the electrical and communications infrastructure supported both research integrity and industrial functionality.

Key Delivery Achievements

  • Seamless collaboration between electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical teams under tight timeframes
  • Integration of communication and control cabling into process structures with minimal redesign
  • Establishment of a compliant, scalable power and control backbone suitable for future process modules
  • Strict adherence to environmental, WHS, and heavy industrial safety protocols

Challenges & Solutions

The research-focused nature of the project meant that design parameters evolved continuously as new process data was generated.

To maintain project momentum and accuracy, AVE implemented:

  • Progressive handovers and sectional commissioning, enabling early testing and validation of subsystems
  • Adaptive design management, ensuring documentation and schematics evolved with design changes
  • Close coordination with MCi and other contractors to maintain program alignment and avoid scope clashes

AVE Technologies MCi Carbon Kooragang Island

A Strong Electrical Backbone for Australia’s Next Generation of Carbon Capture Technology

The project delivered a safe, efficient and expandable electrical and communications system that supports operations at Myrtle, MCi Carbon’s Kooragang Island carbon refinery. Officially opened in June 2026, MCi Carbon describes Myrtle as the world’s first fully integrated, multipurpose carbon refinery. AVE’s infrastructure provides the power, control and connectivity required to support industrial operations, commercial validation campaigns and the continued development of MCi’s mineral carbonation technology.

This successful delivery has further strengthened the long-term partnership between AVE and MCi, with ongoing support provided for commissioning, maintenance, upgrades, and future expansion.

Overall, the MCi Carbon Kooragang Island project highlights AVE Technologies’ capability in delivering technically complex, environmentally focused industrial solutions. Through adaptive engineering, collaborative delivery, and a strong commitment to safety and sustainability, AVE played a key role in advancing one of Australia’s most innovative carbon utilisation initiatives—setting a benchmark for sustainable industrial innovation and carbon-to-product technology in the region.

This successful delivery was recognised at the 2026 NECA NSW Awards, where AVE Technologies was named State Winner in the Industrial Large category.
