Project Overview
AVE Technologies was engaged to design and install a comprehensive automated gate and access control solution for multiple large horse studs in the Upper Hunter. The project focused on improving security, streamlining operations, and reducing manual handling across multiple entry points within the property.
The system was designed to perform reliably in both mains-powered and off-grid environments, ensuring dependable operation under varying weather and distance conditions.
Scope Of Works
- Design and supply of automatic gate systems with integrated access control and communication functions
- Installation of standalone solar and battery systems for remote gates without grid power
- Integration of RFID readers and vehicle tag access for staff and regular visitors
- Implementation of remote connectivity via 4G modules for monitoring and override control
- Configuration of IP56–IP68 rated components to withstand outdoor environmental exposure
- Development of a quarterly maintenance program, including solar performance and mechanical alignment testing

Challenges & Solutions
A key challenge was delivering reliable automation across remote areas with limited infrastructure and connectivity. AVE implemented solar-powered control enclosures with battery backup, ensuring 24-hour system availability. RFID vehicle tagging replaced manual keypads, while 4G remote communication provided complete monitoring and override control from the homestead.
These innovations eliminated the need for manual gate operation, significantly reducing downtime and improving security.
