Mineral Carbonation International (MCi) engaged AVE Technologies to deliver a comprehensive electrical and communications package for its carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) facility at Kooragang Island — one of Australia’s most advanced initiatives in carbon-to-product research and industrial application.
The project supported MCi’s mission to convert captured CO₂ emissions into valuable building materials using innovative mineral carbonation processes.
Given the facility’s research-driven, evolving nature, AVE adopted a highly collaborative, adaptive engineering approach, working closely with MCi engineers and process partners to meet both industrial safety and research compliance standards.

As a greenfield, pilot-scale facility, the MCi project required flexibility, technical depth, and precise coordination across disciplines.
AVE’s multi-skilled team collaborated directly with MCi’s in-house engineers and contractors to ensure the electrical and communications infrastructure supported both research integrity and industrial functionality.

The research-focused nature of the project meant that design parameters evolved continuously as new process data was generated.
To maintain project momentum and accuracy, AVE implemented:

The project delivered a safe, efficient, and expandable electrical and communications system that now supports continuous pilot-scale operations at MCi Carbon’s Kooragang Island facility. The upgraded infrastructure has improved plant reliability and uptime, enabling consistent testing and the ongoing development of MCi’s mineral carbonation processes. AVE Technologies also established a scalable electrical foundation that will support future process modules and the wider replication of MCi’s carbon capture technology as it moves toward commercial deployment.
This successful delivery has further strengthened the long-term partnership between AVE and MCi, with ongoing support provided for commissioning, maintenance, upgrades, and future expansion.
Overall, the MCi Carbon Kooragang Island project highlights AVE Technologies’ capability in delivering technically complex, environmentally focused industrial solutions. Through adaptive engineering, collaborative delivery, and a strong commitment to safety and sustainability, AVE played a key role in advancing one of Australia’s most innovative carbon utilisation initiatives—setting a benchmark for sustainable industrial innovation and carbon-to-product technology in the region.
